Adani's Vizhinjam Port in Kerala marked a historic milestone as MSC Turkiye, one of the world's largest and most eco-friendly container ships, docked for the first time in India.
Operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, the 399.9-meter-long vessel can carry 24,346 TEUs and is engineered for high fuel efficiency with a reduced carbon footprint. This event boosts Vizhinjam’s profile as a global transshipment hub, capable of handling Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). Strategically located near major international shipping routes, Vizhinjam Port features deep-sea access, automation, and world-class infrastructure. With a capacity of 1 million TEUs in Phase 1, and 4.5 million more planned, it aims to handle 50% of India’s transshipment needs by 2028.
