Third tender in five years; 99-year concession aims to attract ₹25,000 crore investment.
WB Govt Issues Fresh Tender for Tajpur Deep-Sea Port as Elections Approach.
The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has floated a fresh global tender—its third in five years—to develop the greenfield deep-sea port at Tajpur in Purba Medinipur. This comes months after the state abruptly scrapped the previous tender, despite Adani Ports winning the bid in 2022 with the highest revenue share and receiving the Letter of Intent. The new tender retains the same terms, offering a 99-year concession and targeting ₹25,000 crore in direct and indirect investments. The project will be awarded to the bidder offering the highest revenue share, which will double every 15 years from the 31st year onward. Developers may begin with non-containerised cargo and scale up later. The state will lease 126 acres for port development and 1,000 acres for estate development at a nominal annual fee. The long concession period is expected to drive large private investments, boost regional logistics, and catalyse employment. Bids are due February 27.
