Strong solar and wind growth, robust project pipeline, and rising storage investments reinforce India’s clean energy momentum.
India’s Renewable Capacity Hits 234 GW; Solar Dominates with 14.3 GW Added in H1 2025.
India’s renewable energy capacity touched 234 GW by June 30, 2025, with solar accounting for nearly half, according to JMK Research’s Q2 2025 Renewable Energy Update. Large hydro contributed 21% and wind 22.9% of the mix. In H1 2025, utility-scale solar surged with 14.3 GW additions, up 49% year-on-year, while rooftop solar grew 76% with 3.2 GW. Wind capacity rose 84% to 3.5 GW. In Q2 alone, utility-scale solar grew 8.46 GW, rooftop 1.86 GW, while wind slowed to 1.62 GW. India’s project pipeline stands at 148 GW, with another 74 GW under bidding, expected to drive future growth. Projections for 2025 suggest 39 GW solar and 6.5 GW wind additions. Adani leads developers with 39.3 GW capacity, while Waaree and Sungrow dominate modules and inverters. Q2 saw $4.87 billion in investments and 2.25 GW storage awards. Renewable auctions slowed, but hybrid and storage demand are rising, reinforcing India’s clean energy trajectory.
