SDHI and Indian Maritime University Launch Centres of Excellence for Shipbuilding and Innovation.                                                                                                                                            

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd (SDHI) has joined hands with the Indian Maritime University (IMU) to establish specialised Centres of Excellence focused on shipbuilding, naval architecture, and heavy fabrication. The initiative aims to advance training, research, and innovation while preparing skilled professionals for India’s expanding maritime and shipbuilding sectors. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during a thematic session at IMU’s Chennai campus ahead of India Maritime Week 2025. The centres will operate across SDHI shipyards and IMU campuses, offering hands-on training, research opportunities, and industry-focused programs. The collaboration also plans joint initiatives with educational institutions, vocational training providers, and government departments to strengthen skill development aligned with India’s maritime vision. Rajeev Nayyer, Advisor at SDHI, said, “Together, we aim to nurture the next generation of maritime and shipbuilding professionals who will drive India’s self-reliance and global competitiveness in this sector.”
