The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has appointed Akash Tripathi, IAS (1998 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre), as its new Managing Director, marking a significant leadership change at the country’s nodal renewable energy agency. Tripathi, who currently serves as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, takes charge of SECI at a crucial juncture as India accelerates its clean energy transition. The government has temporarily upgraded the post of SECI’s Managing Director to the rank of Additional Secretary, reflecting the strategic importance of the role. Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), SECI plays a pivotal role in expanding India’s solar, wind, and green energy capacities through project development, auctions, and policy support. Tripathi’s appointment is expected to strengthen SECI’s role in achieving India’s ambitious 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030, while advancing innovation and private sector participation in clean energy.
